This is the first week that I have been in the office. It has been really good. I have been doing a bit of data entry stuff, entering details like where the diggers and loaders are working, but have also been doing a bit of engineering work. It's good to see the reports that have to be done for the client, and the internal reporting that happens. There is a lot of Excel work, but that is consistent across all streams of engineering. I really enjoy having a look at all the formulae to see where the numbers are coming from, so it actually makes sense to me. I've also been checking out how the surveyors do scans of the pit. I really enjoy when you get to see how it all comes together, and what is involved in each part.
It is a camp setup again, but it is a really long drive to site here. It takes about 45min from camp to the Thiess site, most of which is driving alongside the conveyor from Curragh North to the central Curragh wash plant. The conveyor at Curragh is pretty impressive. Have a look at the link below for a bit more info on the conveyor, as well as a general overview of Curragh.

I think it would be good to work for an Owner Operator, especially a smaller one like Curragh (owned by Wesfarmers) to learn about the draglines, wash plants, and other equipment that contractors don't always operate, but I am really enjoying working for contractor companies so far.
