Here is a website that has just been launched by The Queensland Resource Council:
www.oresomeresources.com
I've just been having a look around it, and think it's awesome. It really helps you get an idea of what mining is like with animations rather than just being able to read about it.
About Me
- andy
- I'm like any other uni student. I like clubbing, parties with friends and surfing if I can get a chance. I grew up in Townsville and miss my great friends there, the strand and maggie, but I still get time to have fun in brissie. I'm studying Civil and Construction Engineering at QUT, and I'm finding it a lot more interesting than most people would think. I'm also doing a mining minor at UQ at the same time so that I can work in the mining industry. I hope to work on mine sites once I graduate, because I love the friendliness in small towns, and it's always more fun to brag about being involved in massive projects. Drop me an email at andrea.dale@connect.qut.edu.au if you want to know more :)

Dragline Vid
So that it's not too boring, I made this video a bit faster (not the drive by though, just the part showing the dragline working).
Vac work and uni
So I finished up my vac work at the end of February with Thiess at Curragh North (pics will be coming), and started uni at the start of March. I had a week to go to New Zealand, and it was amazing. just so pretty. Definitely a contrast to the previous 3 months.

Uni is getting pretty full on now. I'm doing five subjects at two different uni's to get my minor in mining. It's a challenge at times, but should definitely be worth it.
After easter I also get to go to the New Leaders Conference in Kalgoorlie in WA. I'm really looking forward to it and will obviously be blogging all about it. I think that's about it for the moment, but plenty of pics to come. :)

International Women's Day Breakfast
I know it has been ages since I have written much, so I hope to make up for it now. Last Monday I went to the International Women's Day Breakfast. It was really good to see the amazing nominees this year - from inspiring careers to great company initiatives. I don't think I will do the award winners justice in my descriptions, so check out the link below for more info.

One really interesting point made was about the 10% of men in the room representing the opposite ratios in the industry. It is improving though, with more females entering all levels, from operations to management. To be honest, I don't really notice too much on site, except for how great it is to never line up for a toilet!! It is a male dominated industry, but that's definitely not stopping me, and I hope it's not a deterrent for others.
